Bits and Bobs
Sometimes an image just pops out and there's no explaining it. It's inside me and must have life in the form of a painting or sculpture. Other times it is like a sentence or paragraph and several images will come out of the musing. And other times it is a commission and the patron sets the direction.
(Sainted) Pets
Mostly Longhorns
Most of my life I've been afraid of cows. Really afraid. I was working on the Illumination Series and saw a cow whose belly was lit just right by the sun. It seemed to glow from the inside out. I logged it away as a possible image for the series. (I ultimately opted for a swan). Then one day while traveling in Arizona we came face to face with Texas Longhorn cattle. What an incredible animal with those impossibly long horns. And they have become a constant figure in my studio. I am still afraid of cows but I do appreciate their lumbering beauty and the engineering feat to hold those long horns.
